Critique of Maurice Finocchiaro's "Retrying Galileo" and the So-Called "Galileo Myth" (Paperback)
Galileo scholar, Maurice Finocchiaro, has put forth a supposition that the Catholic Church’s decrees against Galileo were not based on the Church declaring that heliocentrism was a heresy. He suggests the “heresy” interpretation is a “myth” begun in 1633 and carried on until today. Instead he suggests the Church decreed heliocentrism was merely “contrary to Scripture” but not heretical. His thesis can be disproven very easily. Dr. Finocchiaro was sent a copy of this critique in December 2017. In a return email in February 2018, Dr. Finocchiaro acknowledged receipt of the critique, but since then he has not responded. I thus felt it was time to publish the critique. The current date of publishing is December 4, 2019. Robert Sungenis.
